Upon arrival in Anchorage meet your private driver at the Anchorage Airport and transfer to your downtown hotel. Bordered by the shores of Cook Inlet, Anchorage stands as an enchanting metropolis surrounded by rugged wilderness. The largest city in Alaska, Anchorage is home to nearly half of the state’s population. It is also one of the only places in Alaska with all the modern fixtures of American life: a performing arts center, gourmet restaurants and numerous shopping malls. There are no activities planned today, so the entire day is yours to explore on your own or participate in optional excursions.

Travel south with your private driver/guide along the scenic Seward Highway – graced by stunning coastal and mountain views. Watch for moose, bears, and Dall sheep.
Enjoy a stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. The Conservation Center takes in injured and orphaned animals year-round and provides them with spacious enclosures and quality care. The Center maintains over 200-acres so the animals can display their “wild” natural behavior; visitors can spot brown bears, musk-ox roaming the grounds, and more.
Arrive in Girdwood and embark on a Nature Hike while exploring part of the Historic Iditarod Trail. Continue your journey along Turnagain Arm to Seward, known as the Gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park. Board a cruising vessel and sail through Resurrection Bay and Kenai Fjords National Park. Your 6-hour cruise will allow you to explore the scenery, wildlife, and glaciers found in the Park. Look for whales, porpoises, Steller sea lions, sea otters, and puffins as you travel through the park. Providing a full narration to your journey, a uniformed National Park Ranger will guide you to the many spectacular sights while fielding any questions you may have. Stop at the mighty Holgate Glacier, an actively calving tidewater glacier and enjoy a delicious Alaskan salmon and prime rib buffet onboard.
Return to Seward at the conclusion of your cruise and travel aboard luxury dome rail cars for your return journey. Large, panoramic windows will allow for mostly unrestricted views of the scenery around you. Leave the shores of Resurrection Bay behind as you enter the backcountry wilderness before continuing along Turnagain Arm, where the steep mountains

Today, travel north from Girdwood to Talkeetna on the Parks Highway. With your private driver and vehicle drive through the scenic Matanuska-Susitna Valley, bordered by three major mountain ranges: the Alaska Range, the Talkeetna Mountains, and the Chugach Mountains. The drive features expansive views of alpine peaks and valleys, rivers and streams, and vast pine and birch forests.
Stop at Happy Trails Kennel you will be greeted by 30 to 60 excited sled dogs. The Happy Trails Kennel tour begins with a virtual trip along the Iditarod trail via a video narrated by Iditarod champion Martin Buser, continuing with a visit to a mockup Iditarod checkpoint where life on the trail is described as well as how to care for the dogs. The tour concludes with puppy playtime and a dog sled demonstration, a photo op will be available following the demonstration.
Continue to Talkeetna, the quaint town is known as the jumping off point for climbing Denali. You will have the opportunity to settle into your accommodations. The balance of the day is at your leisure.

Various guided walks and hiking programs are available each day. Options will vary according to length and difficulty, so there is always something for everyone. Kantishna is rich is gold rush history and the lodge staff can provide the materials and tutorial for you to gold pan on your own. Other non-guided activities you can enjoy on your own include use of mountain bikes to explore the Denali park road or fishing rods and reels for you to try your hand at some catch-and-release fishing inside Denali National Park.
Evening programs often feature lodge staff or guest speakers to share information on topics such as photography, the aurora borealis, Denali expeditions, Kantishna’s gold rush history, or a myriad of other topics unique to Alaska. On clear evenings when Denali is visible, the lodge staff will provide a guided excursion to Wonder Lake for the opportunity to see majestic Denali in full color with the evening alpenglow.

Depart the lodge early this morning by lodge shuttle. You will travel the park road back to the park entrance. There will be additional opportunities to look for wildlife during your journey.
